Good Weather Means Progress
Well, the weather at Classy Cabins AZ has been un-characteristically mild this winter so far. So far, so good! It snowed the next day after these photos were taken, but not too much. Not good for ski season, but good for construction in the winter.
Bearly-A-Cabin has been painted, the doors are on (and in), and the deck on both the back and front. Next visible project is putting the stone on the chimney.
You can see our stone guy, Alfredo, and his crew, putting up the chicken wire prior to the scratch coat of mortar. And you can see the chicken wire all done. The stone is due to arrive late next week, so next time we post, you should be able to see how it looks.
The doors look great. They’ll be stained a bit darker than the bare wood you see now, but the knotty wood is really nice to look at.
Finally, after the excavation mess to put in the electric conduit, we’ve gotten the new part of the driveway in. This is the bottom layer of cinders that make up the driveway. There’ll be plenty of room to turn around, and it’s going to be easy to plow when it snows.
Winter Construction
Winter is in full swing in Northern Arizona, and making things more interesting for the folks working on Bearly-A-Cabin.
You’ve got to contend with the snow – getting there, and keeping it out of the house which has no doors yet.
Then, there are things you need to do inside that are sensitive to the weather. Like dry walling, which is happening right now. The drywall guys got it all up last week, but now they have to tape and mud the seams, and mud and texture the walls. That drywall mud is water based – so…gotta keep the house closed up. You can see the big propane heater here. They’ve got the doors covered with plastic, and with the house sealed up, this heater keeps it nice and warm so the mud can dry – before it freezes.
Winter weather isn’t slowing us down…
It’s officially Winter at Classy Cabins AZ. The crews have been hard at it, by the time these are posted, all the siding will be on, and the drywall finished inside.
Now it gets more exciting, even as progress appears to slow. That’s an illusion though. There’s a lot to do inside, and still quite a bit outside.
The rock hammering is mostly done, with a trench for power still to go. The septic system and water cistern are being delivered to go in those holes. And, the decking will finally go on, the doors installed.
Inside, there’s quite a bit of finish carpentry and paintwork, as well as electrical and plumbing fixtures. We’re starting to think about when the flooring can go in.
We’ll be done sometime in the spring!
The Roof is On, First Snow
On 11/11/11, the roof is on, and all the trade contractors are working. We had the first snow a few days ago. Digging in the rocky ground for the septic system and tanks is underway.
The weather is an important factor in how long it takes to complete. We got a bit of a late start. It’s all weathered in, but we may have delays on things like paint and stain if it’s too cold.
Every week it’s looking more like it’s finished self.
Beginning To Take Shape
Bearly-A-Cabin is really beginning to take shape. With the windows in, and the cladding on the walls, you can really begin to see how it’s going to look. You can’t see it here, but the inside is taking shape as well. With all the walls framed in, and the ability to visit the upstairs as well as the ground floor, you can see just how it all works out. All the windows are in, and you know exactly what the view will be from every room. This is a phenomenal place to vacation!
Forests Boost Immunity!
An article in Experience Life Magazine, the publication of LifeTime Fitness, talks about new research which shows time spent in forests actually boosts your immunity.

Just one more reason why you should take a vacation in the woods. Shown in the Picture is our forest around Classy Cabins.
Bearly-A-Cabin framing almost complete…
Heading into the fall, the framing stage is almost complete. You can see the shape it will have when finished now. Still to come, the sweeping front deck where guests will relax in the quiet of the forest.
